Öz

Tüm ağır metaller kaçınılmaz bir şekilde toksiktirler. Kadmiyum yaşayan hiçbir canlı organizma için temel bir element değildir. Yumuşakçalar kadmiyumu serbest konsantrasyonlarda biriktirirler. Son yıllarda insanlar tüm dünyada yaygın olarak artan ve çeşitli kirleticiler tarafından oluşan deniz kirliliğinin farkına vardılar. Dünya çapındaki endüstrileşme sürekli artış gösterdikçe kadmiyum gibi aşırı toksik elementlere de ilgi sürecektir. Kadmiyum gibi ağır metallerin su organizmalarına etkilerini daha iyi anlayabilmek için, bu maddenin alımı, birikimi, saklanması ve atılması ile ilgili birçok kimyasal ve fizyolojik yöntemlerin anlaşılması çok önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, kadmiyumun biyoakümülasyon karakteristiğini ve su ürünleri üzerindeki toksisitesini aydınlatmaktır
