Growth rate of different size groups of mussels, Mytilus galloprovincialis Lamarck, 1819 in Iskele-Urla (Bay of Izmir)
Abstract
The culture of different size groups (six) of the mussel seeds were investigated from August, 1996 to July 1997 in Iskele (Urla-Izmir). Shell length, width, height and live weight of different size of mussels were monitored during one year. The experimental results indicated that the growth rates of the mussel seeds which were separated according to their shell length at the beginning of the investigation were different. Results showed that small mussel seeds, had higher growth rate than bigger size (P<0.05).
