Transporting and settling of introduced organisms of marine environment: legal, economic and ecologic aspects and control of biological invasion
Abstract
The access routes for introduced marine species to a new area are various. For example transportation of fouling organisms by ships, transportation of introduced species by ballast waters, aquaculture, by aquarium activities, scientific research. In Mediterranean Suez Canal is an another way for introduced species. Mediterranean sea has less biodiversity than Red Sea that’s why, these species can easily settle in this environment. Settling and developing of introduced species in Mediterranean is very rapid. If it goes in that way according to experts assumptions, in the middle of the 21st century the number of introduced marine plants in Mediterranean has become more than native ones. If native and introduced species has the same ecologicel niche, they compete against each other and introduced ones can take the place of native ones. Besides introduced species have various negative effects (sickness, parasites, poisons etc.) on native species, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, and marine transportation. In some situations developing of introduced species can be identified as a “Biological Pollution”. In other pollution types effect can be returned by cleaning but in biological pollution returning back is very difficult. Therefore in our century ecologists work a lot on biodiversity, specially at National parks, Protected areas and islands.
