Age and growth characteristics of chub (Leuciscus cephalus L., 1758) population in Işıklı Lake, Çivril, Denizli, Turkey.
Abstract
Growth characteristics of the Chub (Leuciscus cephalus) sampled monthly between February 1998-January 1999 were investigated in this study. For this purpose, 528 speciemens were captured with the seines having various mesh sizes. The sex ratio of the chub population is calculated as 40.72% for females and 59.28% for males. Fork length ranged from 13.2 to 23.1 cm and weight ranged from 41.7 to 260.1 g. The length-weight relation was found as W= 0.01596 L3.04 for all individuals, and the von Bertalanffy growth parameters were computed as L∞= 29.81cm and W∞= 485.49 g, k= 0.151 year –1, t0=- 3.535 year. Furthermore, the ratios of total mortality, natural mortality and fishing mortality were determined as 38.39%, 28.51% and 9.88%, respectively.
