The present study
compares size selectivity of commercially used hand-woven slack knotted codend
and three different alternative (40 mm square mesh, 44 mm and 50 mm diamond
mesh) machine woven codends for bogue (Boops boops) and common sole (Solea
solea). Hauls were conducted using covered codend method between 10 October and
16 December 2011 in Mersin Bay. Results show that alternative machine woven
codends are selective enough for bogue however, tested four codends are not
sufficient in releasing individuals under legal size for common sole.
