  • hesaplanmış olan ortalama kuluçka büyüklüklerine yakın olduğu görülürken, Alata Kumsalı’nda 2005 üreme sezonunda Ergene vd. (2009) tarafından hesaplanan ortalama yumurta sayısı [131.06±32.64 (min. 62 – maks. 191); n=18 ]’ndan düşük çıkmıştır. yumurta sayısı değerinin yukarıda bahsedilen
  • Kazanlı Kumsalı’nın özellikle C. mydas türü için yuvalama yoğunluğu açısından Doğu Akdeniz’de önemli bir yuvalama alanı olduğu daha önce yapılan çalışmalarda ortaya konulmuştur. Bu sebeple bu önemli alanın korunmasına yönelik daha önceki araştırmacılar (Carswell, 1992; Ozaner, 1993; Durmuş, 1998; Baran ve Kasparek, 1989; Altan ve Kasparek, 2000; Kasparek vd., 2001; Aureggi, 2001; Oruç vd., 2003; Canbolat, 2004b; Kasparek, 2005; Elmaz ve Kalay, 2006; Ergene vd., 2006) tarafından da belirtilen sorunların çözümüne
  • Kazanlı Kumsalı’nda deniz kaplumbağası populasyonlarını izleme, koruma çalışmalarının ve bilimsel araştırmaların devam ettirilmesi, özellikle Chelonia mydas türü deniz kaplumbağaları açısından birinci derece öneme sahip bu kumsal için çok önemlidir. Öz

Bu çalışmada, 2006 üreme sezonunda Mersin ilinde bulunan Kazanlı Kumsalı’na yuva yapan Chelonia mydas ve Caretta caretta populasyonları incelenmiştir. Yapılan çalışmada 385 C. mydas ve 11 C. caretta yuvası tespit edilmiştir. 4.5 km uzunluğundaki kumsalda her iki tür için yuva yoğunluğu, ortalama yumurta sayısı, yuvadaki yavru başarı oranı, denize ulaşan yavru başarı oranı, denize ulaşan yavru sayısının toplam yumurta sayısına oranı hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca kumsalda 22 ölü C. caretta ve 4 ölü Trionyx triunguis bireyi bulunmuştur
