Fishing sector in Izmir province and its actual problems

Abstract

Main fishing centers of Izmir province are Dikili, Çandarlı, Aliağa, Foça, Homa Lagoon and vicinity, Güzelbahçe, Urla, Özbek, Mordoğan, Karaburun, Yeni Liman, Dalyanköy, Çeşme, Sığacık,
Gümüldür from north to south, respectively. Total annual catch was obtained as 10841 tonnes in 1995 from Izmir province. In the region, fishing activities were carried out by trawl, purse seine, beach seine nets, gill nets, fishing lines, long lines, traps etc. Most of fish which was obtained from Izmir and vicinity are consumpted in regional markets and the remains are send to central fish market of Izmir and Güzelbahçe.
