Abstract

Tuna (Thunnus thynnus Linnaeus, 1758) farming is a new subject in Turkey. In this study three active tuna farms were investigated in terms of some area, system and production activities. Tuna farming with its dependency on nature and interm of the sea cage systems used is different from the seaberam and seabass culture which have been successfuly carried out for many years in Turkish Seas. In tuna farms, where there are 50 m diameter polyethylene cages used, fish are usually fed for 6-8 months and then marketed. As conclusion it is recomended that in the selection of areas for tuna farms, which involves a considerable investment, as many factors as possible should be taken into account and technolugy of the cage system to be used must be reliable.
