Blue-green algae (Cyanobacteria) and thermalism

Abstract

Besides biologically role in ecosystems, micro algae are important organisms since they can produce various compounds such as lipids, proteins, pigments and vitamins etc. Also, thermalism can be defined as therapeutic use of hot water springs. The biologically active compounds derived from thermal blue-green algae also play important role in SPA (Sanitas per aqua) treatments. In this study, we present an overview of literature describing the general characteristics of blue green algae which distribute in thermal springs and the history of geothermal springs which used for therapeutic purposes.
