Dr. Davies I. Chris is an Aquatic Ecotoxicologist with Ph.D. in Fisheries and Hydrobiology. He has an MSc. In Fisheries and Hydrobiology and BSc. in fisheries from the University of Port Harcourt. His areas of expertise lie in Genotoxicity, Biomonitoring Environmental Chemistry (metals) in the Aquatic Environment, and Environmental Sustainability. Dr. Davies is a creative and enthusiastic lecturer with six years of experience at the Department of Fisheries, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria. He has experience in designing and carrying out scientific research and writing technical reports. He possesses excellent analytical and communication skills and a dedicated approach to working in a highly controlled working environment. He is a scholar of the World Bank African Center of Excellence, Center for Oilfield Chemical Research, University of Port Harcourt. He is a Certified Environmental Scientist with the National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP) in the USA and a member of the Association for Environmental Impact Assessment of Nigeria (AEIAN), an Affiliation of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA). He is currently the Public Relations Officer of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) Rivers State Chapter.
He is currently looking for a post-doctoral opportunity within the science sector. He is passionate about lecturing and career counseling, research programs planning involving public health importance, environmental pollutants, and the health impact of industrial and domestic waste on the aquatic environment. Recent research focused on the environmental impacts of artisanal crude oil refining effluence on the aquatic environment and the human health risk associated with it. He has personal and written communication skills as well as oral presentation skills with more than ten (18) senior authored and eighteen (18) co-authored fisheries research articles in peer-reviewed, scientific journals. Thus far, his research findings are very enlightening, especially in terms of the impact of chemicals and anthropogenic activities on the aquatic organisms and the environment of the Niger Delta. In addition to his academic achievements, he has attended several national and international conferences.
His interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies are in the areas of genotoxicity of aquatic organisms, Aquaculture, Environmental impacts like industrial wastes on the aquatic ecosystem, and the menace of plastic wastes in landfills and waterways in the Niger Delta, presently, using the Niger Delta Creeks as case studies. Other extra-curricular activities include public enlightenment/participating in workshops/seminars, First Aid and Emergency Responses with bodies like the Nigeria Red Cross Society, MSF - Médecins Sans Frontières, International Committee of Red Cross, and Red Crescent, and currently an emergency first responder and an ambassador with an NGO (Emergency Response Africa). Furthermore, he believes that an informed, open, just, and reporting culture in combination with comprehensive planning and implementation of SMART objectives is crucial in achieving excellence.
