Abstract
The concept of aesthetics, which human beings seek as a necessity in their life after their basic needs, embodies and materializes with fine arts. Although fine arts are divided into a number of branches regarding the different materials they use, there is a constant interaction between all branches of art. Literature, which is a branch of fine arts, is in direct or indirect relationship with other branches of art. In the intensity of this relationship, painting takes place at the top.
With the Tanzimat, the Ottomans turned their direction to the West. Starting from the Tanzimat, when the first steps of Turkish Westernization were taken, the art of painting, which was previously avoided, began to enter the Turkish society and therefore into the Turkish novel. The art of painting took place in the novels written in this period as an indicator of social change. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, a Tanzimat-era novelist, is one of the writers who most used this effect in his novels.
The aim of this study is to reveal the reflection of painting and sculpture art on Ahmet Mithat Efendi's novels in the Tanzimat period, which is the first stage of Turkish Westernization. In this study, the elements of painting along with sculpture art in Ahmet Mithat Efendi's novels will be explained with examples, and the reason why Ahmet Mithat Efendi included these arts in these works will be questioned.

Abstract
İnsanoğlunun temel ihtiyaçlarından sonra yaşamında bir gereksinim olarak aradığı estetik kavramı güzel sanatlarla vücut bulur, somutlaşır. Güzel sanatlar kullandıkları farklı malzemelerle birtakım dallara ayrılsa da bütün sanat dalları arasında sürekli bir etkileşim söz konusudur. Güzel sanatların bir kolu olan edebiyat da doğrudan ya da dolaylı yollarla diğer sanat dallarıyla ilişki içerisindedir. Bu ilişkinin yoğunluğunda üst sıralarda resim de yer alır.
Tanzimat’la birlikte Osmanlı yönünü Batı’ya çevirir. Türk Batılılaşmasının ilk adımlarının atıldığı Tanzimat’tan başlayarak daha önce uzak durulan resim sanatı Türk toplumuna, dolayısıyla da Türk romanına da girmeye başlar. Bu dönemde yazılan romanlarda toplumsal değişimin bir göstergesi olarak resim sanatı yer almıştır. Bu etkiyi romanlarında en çok işleyen yazarlardan biri Tanzimat dönemi romancısı olan Ahmet Mithat Efendi’dir.
Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türk Batılılaşmasının ilk aşaması olan Tanzimat döneminde resim ve heykel sanatının Ahmet Mithat Efendi’nin romanlarına yansımasını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bu çalışmada Ahmet Mithat Efendi’nin romanlarında resim ve heykel sanatına ait unsurlar örneklerle açıklanacak, Ahmet Mithat Efendi’nin bu eserlerde bu sanatlara yer verme sebebi sorgulanacaktır.
