Abstract

Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study is to identify the relation between pregnancy-related stress and fear of COVID-19.
Methods: Conducted in a descriptive type, the present study was carried out with 202 pregnant women from different provinces of Turkey between May 2020 and June 2020. The data were obtained by using an personal information form, Fear of COVID-19 Scale and Pregnancy Stress Rating Scale (PSRS-36). T-test, Pearson Moments Correlation Coefficient and Progressive Regression Analysis were used to analyze the data.
Results: It was determined that, pregnants’ average scale score of PSRS-36 (73,34±27,43) and average scale score of Fear of COVID-19 (21.39±6,38) was higher than the mean. A positive correlation was found (p< 0.05) between Fear of COVID-19 Scale scores and the sub-scales of PSRS-36 which are defined as “stress from seeking safe process of pregnancy and childbirth”, “stress from baby care and changing family relationship”, ”stress from maternal role identification”, “stress from social support seeking” and “stress from altered physical appearance and function” scores, the results of the regression analysis state that sub-scales of PSRS-36 has slight significance in predicting the fear level for COVID-19 (R=0.407, R2=0.166, p<.01). Also, it was found that the sub-dimension of “stress from seeking safe process of pregnancy and childbirth” is the most important predictor of COVID-19 Fear (p< 0.05).
Conclusion: The findings obtained from the study are considered important in terms of effective practices that will be carried out to prevent pregnancy stress during the pandemic process with pregnant women.
