Abstract

20. yüzyılda okur-yazarlık, nasıl okunup yazılacağını bilmek olarak tanımlanmaktaydı, hatta ülkelerin gelişmişlik düzeyleri, okuma-yazma bilen nüfus ile orantılı olarak belirtilmekteydi. Günümüzde ise okur-yazarlık, geleneksel okur-yazarlığın yanı sıra görsel, bilgisayar, sağlık ve teknoloji okur-yazarlığını da içermektedir, böylece bu kavramlar birleşerek 'medya okur-yazarlığı' kavramını oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma, medya okur-yazarlığının tanımlanması ve medya mesajlarının yorumlanması sürecini yansıtan genel bir alanyazın taraması sunmaktadır.
