Objective: This study aimed to determine how the educational processes of intern nursing students were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic process and to determine their views on remedial and supportive education and career planning after graduation.
Material and Method: This descriptive study was conducted between 20 May and 20 June 2022 with intern students (N=96) who were actively studying in the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences of a state university in the academic year 2021-2022. The data of the study were collected face-to-face with a questionnaire form designed by the researchers, consisting of statements about the socio-demographic characteristics of the students, the theoretical and clinical education process of the COVID-19 pandemic, the remedial and supportive education and career planning after graduation.
Results: This study determined that the majority (45.8%) of those who needed support with knowledge and skills related to areas that could not be applied clinically. In addition, the majority of the students are stressed, anxious or worried due to the lack of professional knowledge or skills about being appointed and starting a job after graduation (34.4%), and they think that the deficiencies in practices that require nursing knowledge and skills should be determined and the deficiencies should be eliminated with special training (54.2%) was determined.
Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected nursing students' proficiency in educational attainment and career planning. In order to maintain the quality of nursing presentation, deficiencies in nursing education should be eliminated through comprehensive feedback from students and educators.
Amaç: Bu çalışmada intörn hemşirelik öğrencilerinin eğitim süreçlerinin COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinden nasıl etkilendiği ve mezuniyet sonrasına ilişkin iyileştirici ve destekleyici eğitim ve kariyer planlamalarına yönelik görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte olan bu araştırma bir devlet üniversitesinin Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik Bölümü'nde 2021-2022 Eğitim ve Öğretim yılında aktif öğrenim görmekte olan intörn öğrenciler (N=96) ile 20 Mayıs-20 Haziran 2022 tarihleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın verileri araştırmacıların oluşturduğu, öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri ile COVID-19 pandemisinin teorik ve klinik eğitim süreci, mezuniyet sonrasına ilişkin iyileştirici ve destekleyici eğitim ve kariyer planlamalarındaki etkisine yönelik ifadelerden oluşan anket formu ile yüz yüze toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Bu çalışmada klinik uygulamasına çıkılamayan alanlar ile ilgili bilgi ve beceride desteğe ihtiyaç duyanların büyük çoğunlukta olduğu (%45,8) tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin çoğunluğunun mezuniyet sonrası atanmak ve işe başlamak ile ilgili mesleki bilgi ya da beceri eksikliğine bağlı stres, kaygı ya da endişe içinde olduğu (%34,4), hemşirelik bilgisi ve becerisi gerektirecek uygulamalardaki eksikliklerinin tespit edilerek verilecek özel eğitimler ile eksikliklerin giderilmesi gerektiğini düşündüğü (%54,2) belirlenmiştir.
Sonuç: COVID-19 pandemisi, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin eğitim süreci kazanımlarındaki yeterliliklerini ve kariyer planlamalarını olumsuz etkilemiştir. Kaliteli hemşirelik sunumunun sürdürülmesi için öğrencilerden ve eğitimcilerden kapsamlı geri bildirim alınarak hemşirelik eğitimindeki eksiklikler giderilmelidir.
